Prize allows winner to reevaluate current job

By Kate Northrop

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky woman quit her job after scooping up a $90,000 top prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Hopkinsville resident Reshawn Toliver was relieved when a $90,000 lottery prize came her way because it gave her the final push to quit a job that had been making her unhappy.

Earlier this month, Toliver had stopped at the Skyline Fuel in Hopkinsville and decided to pick up five instant tickets from the $5 "Wild Cash Multiplier" game.

She headed home, and, while her son and boyfriend were relaxing in the other room after having a big lunch, she pulled out the tickets.

It came down to the final ticket in the pile, which revealed three "7" symbols in Game 2 of the play area. Uncovering three identical symbols in the same game wins the prize shown for that game.

"I figured it was going to be another $5 win," Toliver told the Kentucky Lottery.  "I even rolled my eyes in frustration when I saw that."

She needed to take a closer look, though. The first thing she did when she saw the corresponding prize was scream.

"I screamed! I've never hollered that loud before," she recounted.

Her son and boyfriend were startled from their rest, unaware that Toliver was in the middle of realizing she had won a $90,000 top prize.

"They were like, 'What's going on? Are you okay?'" she recalled.

Every lottery player has their own way of processing a big win. Toliver was surely okay — she was just stepping through her own experience of winning a big prize.

"I needed to calm down. I was lost for a minute," she explained. "One minute, it's like breathe, the next minute, it's like stop laughing. I can hear the scream over and over again in my head."

Toliver visited Lottery headquarters in Louisville on March 4 to claim the $90,000 top prize. There, Lottery officials awarded her with a check for $64,800.

When asked what she wants to do with the winnings, she shared that she's been wanting to leave her current job and find another, and that the prize would allow her to begin the search for something else.

"I was unhappy with my job and God made a way," Toliver said. "I felt bad leaving but I'm relieved to be able to quit my job."

The retailer also benefitted from Toliver's win and will receive $900 for selling the winning ticket.

Toliver scooped up the last available top prize of $90,000 in the $5 "Wild Cash Multiplier" game, which launched in March 2023. Players can still try to win the game's other lesser prizes, including 12 second-tier prizes of $5,000 and 18 third-tier prizes of $2,500.

The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.65.

There is at will as well in the law.  $90k won't do enough.  SHe could be broke.   Then again find creative way to double that.  If it was $100k  I would say cool.  Her name =72.   dont be fooled.

Very true. Hopefully she can last long enough to find something better or maybe go into business for herself.

Another thing she could do is get some job training so she'll have some skills to get a better job. Community colleges are a goof way to go for that.

Whatever she does, I congratulate her and wish her well.

Where does it say she does not have a college degree? She could be an accountant or attorney or professor as far as we know.

So when the $ billion dollar plus jackpot is won, you can audition to be the winner.

Who knows her financial situation?   She was miserable and time to go.

Have a question for LP members vs me looking up 45 states.   Does your state have a winning #'s phone #?

Reason I'm asking Kentucky Lottery is getting rid of theirs late June!  I think it is terrible for the many older players that use this service.   How do I know?   Maybe not elders but some many people call around 1330 that it says all circuits are in use, please call later.  The more ammo I have then I can and will FB msg them about this issue!  Thank you.

The difference is, I can see right through it and what you gotta do is crunch in a person name it equals a number and I know the number that it equals to. It's not whatever our whole world has this pattern thing. It's really sad the way some people think.

So I guess you believe what you read I see different

One can really call for the winning numbers???? That is bizarre and about 20 years out of date. It reminds me when some coworkers could not manage their weekly paycheck and would be ranting about calling their bank automated phone number at midnight to see if the money was there.

Cruzincat

This is a good example of a relatively small amount of money that can still be a life changing amount. There are times when just a few dollars can change someone's life.  I could pay off a lot of my bills if I was given $68k, making my life a lot easier, as long as I didn't add more to my debt.

TyraAnnTyriana

I am BEYOND HAPPY FOR HER... IT'S "HER"LIFE AND MONEY SHE CAN ENJOY IT HOW SHE WANTS.. NONE OF US WERE HELPING HER PAY ANY BILLS BEFORE AND <snip> SHO NOT NOW.... ENJOY YOUR CASH MY LOVE

I did not say she didn't. I have a business degree but I wasn't where I wanted to be so I took a few classes at a community college and ended up in a better job. A little extra education can help in many cases.

Whatever she does, I wish her well.

Dude, whether you see a difference or not is not the point. It would be nice if YOU kept your opinions to yourself because most of us have no idea what you are spewing about. Let the rest of us congratulation the lady without you throwing a wet blanket on the occasion. By the way, since you say you can SEE things, why have YOU not won this billion dollar jackpot yet, enjoying the money instead of spending your time posting here?

This woman was not happy working where she was.

I'm sure if she didn't win, she would still be working where she is.

But she's not. Good for her to find something else more fulfilling to her.

What is really sad is the way YOU think.

Numerology can be effective in certain situations but,

You can't just decipher someone's name into numbers and decide that your opinion is right.

People are not just numbers

It's the same with Astrology; You would talk trash about someone born under a certain sign?

Its a clear fact.   Sad that no one else sees it.   Because the billion dollar jackpot is won by actors.    Honestly,  the woman in Massachusetts that won it the numbers equaled her boyfriend and a couple of others.

Exactly.  Evidence to prove an alleged fact can take the form of sworn testimony, documents, video, etc. None of that exists with numerology. Numerology is not accepted and has never been accepted as proof of a fact by any administrative or judicial entity. One would be laughed at if even suggesting it.

Probably not enough to retire, unless you are in the middle of the 60s or older.

Exactly. The story is well written and straight forward.  A fourth grader would find it makes complete sense.

She said she was unhappy at her job, anyone who has worked in a toxic environment knows they would quit without a jackpot. 90K is plenty to buy her time to find another job which she said she plans on doing.

Even half of that is enough to go back to school or pay bills while getting another job, peace of mind is priceless!

But she won't. She will keep putting it off because she has money now. Soon it will be too hot to look for a job. Then fall will come and she still hasn't really pursued anything worthwhile. Nasty winters in Hopkinsville, Ky so she is staying in and watching Jennifer Hudson. Her money has dwindled down to 13,748.00 by now but she isn't panicking. She bought a car and didn't put a dime down figuring she would use that to get to that new job that she hasn't looked for yet. I owe more on the just the car than I have now. I better go down and buy some more tickets.
